I remember this. When his "Fire" single hit it big on the charts, Atlantic released his album (with both of these songs on it) and planned a concert tour. But his stage show began with him getting lowered by a rope around his neck and had other things too weird for 1968 -- he was about five years ahead of the times; look what came later. The LP was in the $1.98 bin less than a year later (which is where I got it). It's actually not bad, and he's a strong singer.
